On 23 June 1988 by the microphones of the Energy Commission of the U.S. Senate, NASA scientist James Hansen officially denounced the existence of global warming and for the first time we talked a real threat for the present and for future generations.

The scientist explained that in the first five months of the year the Earth's temperature was the highest ever recorded in the previous 130 years and this phenomenon was "99% as a consequence of the greenhouse effect."
From that day on global warming, which was mentioned only in a select group of ecologists, and 'became part of the agenda of politicians in Washington and the lives of us all.
From one point of view, Hansen brought bad luck.
